Case Synopsis
Counterfeit and Imitation Bottled Water is a major threat and concern to the client firm (Nestle) as it not only risks the brand’s image but also is a great concern for its consumers’ health and wellbeing, who are an easy target of such products. This particular target and product line was therefore a high priority case for Checkers and (Nestle). This was due to the nature of the product, size of the target, high activity, and quality standards, of products sold.
Case Details
The target had created its product with close similarities to the genuine brand due to which the brand Nestle’s customers were easy to deceive. Imitation of the product was identified as; (1) colour of the Label, (2) printing and designing of the labels, (3) pattern of the logo, (4) shape of the bottle, (5) etc.
The target was continuously monitored and a thorough investigation was conducted by Checkers Undercover Investigation Team, with sample purchases, collection of evidences, owner and company details and other involved parties. With all the evidences and proofs collected, pointing towards the target’s imitation of (Nestle), A Brand Protection Enforcement Action was put into process. Anti – Counterfeiting Raid in Coordination with Local Enforcement Agency (Police) was taken against the target, seizing all the imitated (counterfeit) products, equipment and arrest of the accused.
The investigation and raid revealed low quality and poor hygiene standards employed by the target Imran Tradersfor manufacturing, production and storage of the products, posing health risks to the end users. The set-up, manufacturing and stock at the target was significant verifying the target’s high activity levels. At Nestle being the owner of the genuine brand, such actions are of high concern to protect their brand and customers who are misled into purchasing fake and imitated products assuming it to be genuine. Checkers International conducted a successful raid in one of the major cities and areas of Pakistan, seizing the illegal products and activities of Brand Imitation from a major target party. This form of Brand Protection Action creates a loud impact among the counterfeiters and imitators while creating deterrence in the market preventing future similar activities.
